Although Kentucky did not enter the union until 1792, these pages also contain those Virginia counties which comprised the area before it became a state.
Key to listings under each county complete tax lists -- indicates that all of the tax lists for the time period in this county have been examined. incomplete -- at the right of a year indicates that possibly not all of the Reads listed for that year are included. A, B, etc. -- represent different tax districts in that county. 6/17, 7 -- e.g. June 17, or July -- indicates the date which the list of taxable possessions for that person was turned in to the tax commissioner, or in the case of a marriage, the date.. c -- indicates that name was contributed to the database by another researcher. ( ) -- After the name of a bride, refers to the name of the person giving consent. # -- After an non-tax list entry refers to a source note. Use the Kentucky Source Notes link on the left side.
