The Virginia pages include those counties which later became West Virginia, but the Virginia counties which later became Kentucky are included in the Kentucky pages.
Key to listings under each county complete tax lists -- indicates that all of the tax lists for the time period in this county have been examined. incomplete -- to the right of the year indicates that possibly not all of the Reads for that year are included. A, B, etc. -- represent different tax districts in that county. 6/17, 7 -- e.g. June 17, or July -- indicates the date which the list of taxable possessions for that person was turned in to the tax commissioner, or in the case of a marriage, the date. c -- indicates that name was contributed to the database by another researcher. Binns -- The source data of the tax list for this year is from the Binns Genealogy project to scan and index Virginia tax lists for 1790 and 1800 (dates of the burned census records) and make them available for research. Land -- Although most tax lists are of personal property, Binns Genealogy states when a Land tax list was used as a souce of a name. LandB, would be the land tax list from district B.
